The CLEAR platform has been initially designed for Cummins Locomotive Engines which Global Locomotive has assessed as offering the best value for their level of technology.

Global Locomotive manufactures and supplies the CLEAR Power Unit world wide. The CLEAR Power Unit is the first universal Power solution for mainline or shunters , new or old locomotives, independent of the original locomotive manufacturer. The CLEAR Power container range is a family of packaged compatible components enabling simple installation with power ranging from 700HP to 4,200HP.

Global Locomotive has packaged its proven CLEAR locomotive power and control system inside a self-contained purpose built container. CLEAR Locomotive Power Containers contain modules that cover the complete drive train and control functions for a diesel electric locomotive. From the 27 Pin MU plug that connects to the operators controls – through to the traction motor leads, the pre-tested power container replaces an entire diesel electric system, other than the traction motors.

All ancillary systems are updated, such as the electrically driven, rotary screw air compressor and electrically driven fans resulting in lower parasitic loads. Traditional power electrical components are replaced by modern microprocessor controls which incorporate traction control systems and Automatic Electronic Stop Start’ AESS’ as well as extended range dynamic brakes.

The CLEAR Power container is designed for a full 50 year operational cycle with high quality, robust industry proven components. Our product will increase the overall value and operational ability of your fleet.

The units are fully Factory tested prior to shipping to your local Accredited Installer for handover.

Despite the economic headwinds and global financial uncertainty, commodity exports are booming and Governments are spending on core rail infrastructure to move freight off roads and to meet export demand for commodities. Rail freight tonnage is projected to double in the next 15 years and high speed rail initiatives and public spending on passenger rail is accelerating total demand for rail motive power.

This doubling in rail freight volumes requires innovative thinking to provide short-term capacity increases in an uncertain world.

 

Repowers by CLEAR will be an important component of the fleet transition to modernisation especially for price sensitive freight commodities such as bulk goods, grains, coal and minerals. Repowering will economically extend the life of narrow gauge and branch lines with CLEAR increasing the haulage capacity of locomotives through increased power, increased traction and increased availability. The environmental gains are a key additional benefit with lower noise levels increasing available operational hours and lower emissions increasing the social acceptability of operations.

The progressive staged upgrade of your fleet through initially repowering older platforms to lift capacity and then to remanufacture and extend the life of the core locomotive fleet will boost capacity at the lowest incremental cost and enable planning for new models that can then be cascaded down through your fleet.



Rationalisation around a common family of engines will significantly lower service costs and spares holding and the lower maintenance regimes for the CLEAR system will dramatically reduce the cost base.



Critical to the process is the dramatically shorter timeframe for a repower or a remanufacture. Global Locomotive is able to deliver repowers 4 months from order and remanufactures 4 months from order. Global Locomotive new builds are nominally 12 months depending on the platform chosen.
